Common Leadership Night
  Council and Commission
October 7, 2008

Pastoral Council

Part of the agenda was to describe the covenant booklet. This will be on next month’s agenda.

We then went over commission reports to compare reports against their goals,
and we learned that the Community commission is working on forming a senior citizens group; it has been doing such since May. The worship commission has developed a liturgy planning committee of Mary Shine, Joan Jones & Jennifer
Welch. Outreach reached all goals. Need to finalize Mass for volunteers.
Formation and Administration reps were not present for this portion of the council meeting. (Those reports can be read below).

And last, commonality between goals in order to come up with a theme will be
part of next month’s agenda.

Worship Commission

In an effort to promote coordination and communication of liturgical ministries, Worship Commission is seeking 4 individuals to serve as a head of each of the following: Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Greeters – to be liaison between their ministry group & the Worship commission.

Two successful Liturgy planning workshops with Fr. Deeker were Held and a 3rd is scheduled for October 27th. Liturgy Planning Committee members are: Mary Shine, Jennifer Welch and Joan Jones who are ready to begin work in that area.

We are striving to put a structure and framework to the various ministries under
our auspices:

Liturgy Planning Committee – Liturgical Ministries – Music Committee – Altar Art & Environment - Morning Worship.

Administration Commission

The commission completed the planning for the parish census with the initial
mailing, including letter, to be mailed by the middle of October.

The most recent report of the Buildings & Grounds committee was received & included the following: 1) status of sidewalk expected to be completed in 2 weeks. 2) A railing will be installed in front of the Parish Center. 3) Front church steps should be done within 2 weeks with installation of permanent railings. 4) Sign at
the top of Southworth Street will be updated. 5) Church decorating committee continues to meet. 6) Work on rectory is on target & scheduled for completion in November. 7) Rectory garage roof and nearby trees will need to be addressed.

Use of the parish web site & e-mail potential will be addressed in the near future.

Community

We have planned a parish movie afternoon, tentatively scheduled for October 25. We’ll call the event "Film and Fellowship", and will plan to show a classic film and offer refreshment. We also have planned a December event around a performance of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol (details to follow). We discussed ways to build a Hospitality Committee to, among other things, offer coffee and donuts after alternating Sunday Masses.

Outreach Commission

We discussed the need for more frequent opportunities to pray together for our Sister Parish of Santa Rosa. We recommend that we include it in our prayer of
the faithful one weekend a month and also frequently at daily mass.

We would like to investigate the possibility of using our parish center as a "warming center" for the elderly during the winter months.

We also discussed the Christmas gift tag program with Carol DeMayo and our commission will organize it in November. The Outreach Commission has decided to meet at 7:00pm, Tues. Nov. 4th.

Formation

Formation worked on finalizing the survey to be sent out to the parish regarding the creation of a Youth Ministry. The survey will be placed in the October 19th bulletin and sent home with CCD students. The Formation Committee could really use a few more volunteers. If you know of anyone who might be interested contact one of the Formation co-chairs listed below.

The next Leadership Night meeting will be on Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00pm.

Important: A reminder that Fr. Tom and Sr. Peg will be here for the PAR meeting with all of us on Saturday, November 22 from 9am until 3pm. Lunch will be provided. Contact Carol DeMayo if you have any questions.
