Common Leadership Night
Council and Commission Reports
December 2, 2008
Pastoral Council
The PAR meeting (Common Leadership Night) will be shortened at the
beginning and end, so the pastoral council meeting will start at 8:30 and
end at 9:00pm. The yearly cycle of planning is on next month’s agenda.
Historical pictures at St. Raphael’s should be removed as soon as possible
and given an appropriate home. The stained glass window of Saint Elizabeth
of Hungary in Saint Raphael church will be offered to Fr. Cyr for the
North Adams Catholic Community which will be renamed Saint Elizabeth of
Hungary Parish.
Worship Commission
We
reviewed the past duties of the Spiritual Life commission and used them as
a guide for future planning. A calendar outline will be used to help us
with planning.
The immediate need is for Christmas. We put out a friendly appeal to all
to lend their voice at the 9:00pm vigil Mass and on Christmas Day at the
10:30am Mass…. as well as any available musicians.
We
hope to have a new music director for the new year.
Administration
Commission
The Administration commission discussed the following topics.
1-
The Census.
a-
A yield of 30% has been addressed to date indicating strong
interest in the parish community.
b-
Ways were discussed to improve participation.
c-
We hope to provide further information from the altar in the
future.
2-
Communications.
a-
Development of a communications committee to tap the many resources
of our parish.
3-
A job description of the Administration Commission was formulated
and submitted for the Covenant booklet.
Community/Hospitality
Committee
Should any commission sponsor an activity requiring refreshments, at least
one member of each commission should be trained to provide refreshments
and make coffee using the parish center kitchen facilities.
We’ve begun compiling a list of ‘coffee families’, and are taking the
initiative to train families and commission members. We are compiling an
instruction sheet for volunteers to use when putting on a coffee hour.
i.e. instructions on using coffee pots, how much coffee and donuts needed,
where ‘stuff’ is, etc.
We’ve planned a Christmas event. It is scheduled for Sunday, December 28th
at 2pm. It will be a family friendly dramatic reading of Dickens’ A
Christmas Carol.
Outreach
Commission
The Outreach commission completed their mission statement and description
for the covenant booklet.
Update on Gift tag project. We are helping 14 needy families this year. In
addition 60 families received Thanksgiving Baskets and expect the same
number to receive Christmas Baskets on Dec. 17.
The Outreach commission will coordinate rides to Mass for people who might
need them.
Formation
We
have decided to reinstate the 2nd grade liturgy program by
forming a committee to assist with the 2nd grade program.
Debbie Cameron will send a letter to 2nd grade parents first
seeking volunteers then to the wider parish. Our next goal is to develop
an ongoing Speakers Program.
