Council and Commission Reports
January 6, 2009
Pastoral Council
We
went over extensively revised parts of covenant booklet and yearly
planning cycle. Each member will receive a copy. It will form a basis for
pastoral council. Our new music director, Catherine Schane-Lydon will be
coming for donuts after the 8:30 and 10:30 masses.
Worship Commission
Worship welcomed Catherine Schane-Lydon to our commission and reviewed
progress since last meeting. We looked ahead to Lent and are making plans
for Ash Wednesday. Also, we considered Feast of St. Blaise which falls on
our PAR might. We have a suggestion to have mailboxes for each commission
to promote communication.
Administration
Commission
Parish Census
We
mailed 550. returns were 150, included were 199 time and talent responses.
We would like to encourage more parishioners to respond.
Maureen O’Mara has tallied a time and talent spreadsheet that reflects a
good spread of interest throughout the various commissions. Copies were
provided to all commission chairs at tonight’s meeting.
Finance Council
Discussions have centered around finances for hiring of new music
director, reviewed Buildings & Grounds projects, and reviewed calendar
year end financial status. Operating costs still exceed income and cost
savings measure were implemented. Weekly giving has fallen off
significantly during the past year and has severely impacted our finances.
It is hoped that parishioners will step forward and increase their weekly
giving.
Buildings & Grounds
Commission continues to be very active and has been wrapping up its summer
& fall projects. Perhaps you have noticed the new steps (front & side) at
the church, the significant repairs to the rectory and the new sidewalks.
Community/Hospitality
Committee
We
are scheduling ‘coffee families’ to provide post-mass coffee and donuts on
the fourth Sunday of each month. With the meals ministry doing donuts on
the second Sunday, we will have coffee hours two Sundays per month. We
will contact Bob St.Pierre to begin to coordinate plans for the St.
Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance. We have also begun to discuss possible dates
and a venue (possibly Parish Center and/or parking lot) for a parish
picnic for this coming June or early July.
Outreach Commission
The Outreach bulletin board is available to other commissions to use in
the future.
Meals ministry will be on the 2nd weekend consistently and
drivers need to fill out CORI forms.
Job descriptions for each job in each outreach ministry will be provided
for the Covenant Booklet.
We
discussed how to identify and approach inactive Catholics in the future.
Formation
New year 1 goal: At least 1 adult education offering
Committee formed for Lenten movie series – Saturday evenings after 4:30
Mass.
Possible future movie and/or lecture series. 1. Advent 2.
Christianity 3. Global religions.
Will investigate possibility of expanding movie series to a soup meal for
shared fellowship before the movie starts.
