Minutes of Council and Commissions For May 2008

Pastoral Council

            The Pastoral Council met on Tuesday May 6th at the Parish center as part of our first common leadership night.  Sandra King and Ann Marie Guzzi agreed to be co-chairpersons for the coming year.  Tom Nicholson, CJ Gillig and Jim will begin work on preparing the Covenant Booklet.  We also agreed that having a high school student and a Williams student would be welcome additions to the council.  Jeff Welch will consult with Karyn O’Toole to come up with potential candidates.  In all our first meeting under the new leadership model was a success.  There are going to be growing pains but with the prayers of the parish and the continued patience and goodwill of all of us as we continue to work together we should have things running smoothly in no time.

 Outreach Commission

            At the meeting of the Outreach commission we named co-chairs.  Thank you Fran Flaherty and Bob Iannitelli!  We are also gathering the names of the all the parishioners who offer their time and talents in service to the parish and community.  Next month we will begin to organize the names into a visual presentation for the bulletin and the back of the church.  Our goal is to inform our parish community of the outreach opportunities and invite them to participate.

 Administration

            Karen Whalen and Henry Pierpan will be the co-chairs for the Administration Commission.  Subcommittees for Buildings & Grounds, Finance, Parish census and Communication were established and membership expanded.  A parish family registration form was edited to provide an appropriate form for the census.  Buildings & Grounds is busy working on painting and updating the exterior
of the rectory and repair/replacement of the front steps and ramp at of St. Patrick’s church.  Next months meeting will be devoted to communications within the Parish.

 Worship Commission

            Barbara Joseph and Karyn O’Toole have agreed to be co-chairs of the Worship Commission.  Worship Commission has begun the process of organizing
the various ministries which fall within the Worship Commission including Eucharistic ministers, lectors, ushers, greeters, sacristans, altar servers, flowers, music and devotions.  The goal is to have a structure for organization and communication for these subcommittees.  Parishioners who are currently serving in these ministries can look forward to hearing from the commission to discuss ways we can improve organization within these groups.  We began discussions about forming a liturgical planning committee and who from the parish might be interested in serving on such a subcommittee (Contact Karyn O’Toole or Barbara Joseph if you are interested).

 Community Commission

            Karen Jolin and Kris McCormack have agreed to serve as co-chairs of the Community Life Commission.  The initial goal for the community life commission
is the formation of a Senior Activity Group.  Between now and the next meeting on June 3, 2008, the members of the commission will contact area churches and organizations and find out the history of each group, schedule of events, what kinds
of events are successful how these groups market themselves and their events and what type of budget each group has.

Formation

At the Formation meeting the members present (Debbie Cameron, Kate
Annichiarico, Judy Smith, Tom Nicholson, and Sandra King) took another look at
the original goal of the committee “Formation of a Youth Ministry”. Debbie Cameron contacted Don Boucher (education director of the Diocese) about youth programs.  He sent
materials outlining the difference between Youth Ministry and Youth Groups.  After lengthy discussion about the wealth of youth programming in our CCD program, it was decided to restate the goal for this first year.   The new goal states: “Find programming to enhance our youth outreach”

In June the action plan will be –
1.  Define the level of success of the current outreach to youth (teens);
2. Define how to best enhance the CCD program;
3. Create a job description for Formation sub-committee members.
The group felt good about what had been accomplished at the first meeting.  Not present at the first meeting: Sue Lynch and Amy Hane.   They will be contacted by committee members with updates.
